GOShelter Introduces Wearable Hands-Free Canopy for Outdoor Field Work
The weather can create challenges for fiber installation and field service crews, particularly when rain, wind, and limited visibility affect equipment handling and mobility. The GOShelter® Wearable Hands-Free Canopy was developed to provide weather protection while allowing technicians to continue working with both hands available.
Designed as a wearable overhead canopy, the GOShelter offers an alternative to traditional rain gear or handheld umbrellas by creating a covered workspace around the user and sensitive electronics. The canopy is intended for fiber installers, telecom contractors, utility crews, broadband technicians, and other field service professionals working outdoors.
The canopy provides upper-body coverage while helping shield installation tools and equipment such as connectors, meters, tablets, testing devices, and electronics from rain exposure.
The GOShelter includes a “duck tail” edge design intended to direct rainwater away from the front opening and toward the sides of the canopy. This helps reduce water runoff onto equipment and minimizes water running down the back of user’s legs.
Constructed with waterproof and wind-resistant materials, the canopy is designed for use in a range of outdoor jobsite conditions while maintaining mobility and ease of movement.
Key features include:
- Hands-free operation for field work
- Upper torso and equipment coverage
- Water-channeling edge design
- Lightweight construction at approximately 20 ounces
- Waterproof and wind-resistant materials
- Quick on/off backpack-style deployment with a single buckle release
The product is intended for applications including fiber line installation, cabinet troubleshooting, connection splicing, roadside utility work, and other outdoor technical service tasks.
“Fiber crews can’t afford downtime every time the weather turns,” said inventor and founder J.A. Huddleston. “The GOShelter was designed to keep installers working efficiently while protecting both the technician and the expensive electronics they rely on.”
The GOShelter is ideal for:
- Fiber optic installers
- Telecom contractors
- Utility crews
- Broadband infrastructure teams
- Network technicians
- Field service professionals
- Outdoor electronics installers
