Washington State Receives Over 300 Applications in First Round of BEAD Grants
Washington State is progressing on its share BEAD funding intended to close the "digital divide" in the state. The state broadband office repored receiving over 300 applications for broadband projects for the first round, shortly after the state closed out the application window on January 31st.
WA state was the recipient of about 1.2 billion dollars in BEAD funds, and the state says there are over 214,000 locations lacking broadband.
ISPs, tribes, PUDs, and other entities made up the large group of applicants, and the state said that about half of all eligible locations received two or more applications.
Menawhile, in Arkansas...
The state of Arkansas also made some progress on the BEAD front, selecting 18 applicants after closing the first round of applications for braodband deployments.
The state broadband office in Arkansas said the awards at this stage amount to about 2% of their total BEAD allocation of about one billion dollars but will cover about 9% of eligible locations.
