Global Telecom Equipment Market Sinks

March 13, 2024
The early findings show challenges in 5G rollouts and other factors that have reduced capex in those areas and in PON networks, as well.

Preliminary findings from Dell'Oro Group show a 5% YoY decline in global telecom equipment revenues, tracking Broadband Access, Microwave & Optical Transport, Mobile Core Network (MCN), Radio Access Network (RAN), and SP Router & Switch.

The early findings points to challenges in 5G rollout that have reduced capex in those areas, and points out capex reductions in PON networks, as well.

Trends in the RAN market were affected in 2023 by lingering effects of "COVID hoarding" and supply-chain challenges, says Dell'Oro Group.

In addition, macroeconomic forces such as higher borrowing costs and Forex trends are contributing to the slump, as well.

The overall market is dominated by seven suppliers, and despite U.S. caution regarding Huawei's technology, the company is leading the pack, and widened its lead 2023, with 30% revenue share.
