Amphenol Charles Industries Walk-In Cabinet (WIC)

July 1, 2023
Charles Walk-In Cabinets (WIC) are protective enclosures designed to house electronic components and equipment supporting fiber and copper interfaces. These cabinets provide a lighter-weight alternative to traditional concrete base station shelters, resulting in significant cost savings. The WIC incorporates the Charles Thermal Management System (CTMS), a maintenance-free thermal system that offers energy savings compared to concrete buildings and huts.
Inside the WIC, there is generous space available to accommodate custom equipment with fiber or copper interfaces, allowing for effortless installation of up to six equipment racks. The side walls of the WIC are equipped with four Charles CTMS thermal devices and a Charles Intelligent Ventilation System (IVS). Convenient motion-sensitive lighting units are installed at the front and rear of the enclosure. Additionally, multiple exterior ground bars connect to an interior master ground bar. Various options for sealed cable ingress and egress are available, with commonly used cable entry ports located at the top on both sides and rear, while cable entry ports on the floor extend to the WIC's front and rear. The WIC also features a versatile false floor that can accommodate a wide range of configurations.
Made of welded steel and measuring 10x10, the WIC is delivered fully prepared for installation, which can be done using gravity mounts, helical mounts, extension mounts, or direct mounting to a concrete pad.
The robust construction of the WIC ensures its ability to withstand severe weather conditions, including winds of up to 150 miles per hour and snow and ice loading of up to 100 pounds per square foot. It is engineered with a 1-hour fire rating and meets Telcordia GR-487 requirements and Zone 4 seismic requirements.
