The Broadband Equity and Deployment Program (BEAD), administered by the National Telecommunications Infrastructure Association (NTIA), is part of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act signed into law in the U.S. in 2021. BEAD is a $42.45 billion federal grant program for all U.S. states and territories to close the digital divide in areas that are unserved or underserved by reliable broadband access. Since the program was launched, progress has been made, but significant challenges remain ahead for meeting the program’s goals.
ISE Magazine sent a survey out to telecom professionals to gain data about BEAD, as well as Build America, Buy America (BABA) requirements, as it relates to their personal knowledge, organizational readiness, and a variety of other metrics.
The goal of the survey was to obtain a clearer picture within the telecom industry of the preparedness, knowledge, confidence, and workforce capacity related to BEAD projects. Particularly with the service providers and engineer/furnish/install (EF&I) contractors that will be receiving funds directly or indirectly from BEAD funds.
