1FINITY™ T900 Series Transponder

July 29, 2024
Fujitsu Network Communications receives gold award in the 2024 ISE Network Innovators' Awards program.

As capacity demands escalate, communications service providers (CSPs) and broadband providers face continual pressure to improve sustainability while cutting costs, as they deal with increased thermal loading concentrated in an ever-smaller footprint. The Fujitsu 1FINITY™ T900 Series Transponder delivers extreme performance, automation and sustainability for regional, metro and long-haul networks. Plus, in March 2024, Fujitsu introduced enhancements to the T900 Series Transponder, which now offers operation up to 150 GBaud for even more speed, capacity, reach and flexibility.

The next-generation T900 Series Transponder features terabit speeds on a single wavelength, sustainable liquid cooling and greater capacity for seamless scaling. Moreover, the T900 Series Transponder is included in the 1FINITY Ultra Optical System platform that also enables AI/ML automation to optimize end-to-end service delivery. This hyper-reliable optical transport platform provides the ideal balance of cost, reach and capacity with simplified operation.

The 1FINITY T900 Series Transponder is the only available optical transponder to incorporate closed-loop liquid cooling, which provides energy savings on two fronts: first, liquid cooling provides far better heat transfer to maintain a lower operating temperature, and second, the system itself consumes less energy, reducing costs.

The closed-loop liquid-cooled system in a compact modular chassis also offers much longer fan life because fans run much slower, delivering higher reliability and greater sustainability than air-cooled fans. Moreover, this translates into reduced maintenance, such as less frequent cleaning or replacement of fan filters; a significant improvement because dirty filters can shut down an entire group of transponders.

Offering data rates of 1.2 terabits per second (Tbps) on a single wavelength with future upgrade to 1.6 Tbps and beyond, this solution features industry-leading 5nm transponder technology that further reduces power per bit, resulting in a 70 percent power savings versus previous 7 nm transponders. Plus, the use of advanced modulation formats improves signal-to-noise ratio by up to 1.5 dB, and enables probabilistic constellation shaping techniques, which can either increase the bit rate or extend reach—or a combination of the two.

Japanese network operator SoftBank recently completed the nationwide deployment, in core areas, of an all-optical network that includes the 1FINITY T900 Series Transponder. Likewise, Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corp. (NTT) selected this solution for use as a verification system in trials that will support construction of a new optical core network across Japan.
