Verizon Taps Santiago Tenorio as New CTO

Oct. 3, 2024
Tenorio was previously at Vodafone, where he spent 25 years.

Verizon today announced the appointment of a new CTO.

Santiago “Yago” Tenorio has been brought on by the company as Chief Technology Officer and SVP of Strategy and Technology Enablement. Verizon says Tenorio has the technical expertise in the wireless industry to “lead the next chapter of Verizon technology innovation.”

Tenorio spent his 25-year career at Vodafone including working on Vodafone’s Open RAN, Cloud Networking and Network APIs. He and his team oversaw network technology and “defined the company’s technology roadmap across mobile and fixed networks,” says Verizon.

Previously, he served as CTO for Vodafone Ireland and Chief Network Officer in the UK, and led the company's network coverage for the 2012 London Olympics.

“As we continue to advance our 5G and 5G-advanced network builds, this is the right time to also look towards the future technology Verizon will enable,” said Joe Russo, Executive Vice President & President, Global Network and Technology. “As Verizon enters its next chapter, we must position our organization for success and remain focused on our Global Networks & Technology mission: To build and operate the best, most reliable, highest-performing and most secure networks to power and empower how customers live, work and play.”

Tenorio will lead Verizon’s work in “advancing new 5G use cases, work with partners to lead new technology advancements and map out the next generation of technologies.” Tenorio’s new role starts October 28, 2024.
