• The total median pre-tax income in the calendar year of 2014 was $133,000, up from $129,000 in 2013, and representing the largest increase since 2008.
• Communications technology continues to yield the highest median earnings ($150,000). Those working in the subspecialty of consumer electronics report the highest at $161,250. Energy and Power engineering remains at the bottom ($116,175).
• The typical respondent is a male in his mid-to-late forties, with an advanced degree, and about 22 years of professional experience.
• Women’s salaries continue to trail men’s by an average of $13,635, but the gap is down $3,000 from 2013.
•Salaries for African Americans trail Caucasians by an average of $15,482, but the gap is down $2,000 from 2013.
• 8.3% of respondents said their primary area of technical competence was communications technology. Of those, 31.3% reported working in design and development engineering and 20% in technical management.
